Cairo’s Best Museums: A Comprehensive Price Guide

When you’re not in the mood for restaurants and cafés, and when the weather is too cold for outdoor activities, museums in Cairo present themselves as a brilliant alternative way to spend the day. There are tons of museums in different areas in Cairo, and chances are, one of them is quite close to your home. So if you’re looking for a cultural outing on your next day out, read on for a comprehensive list of prices for the top 11 museums in our capital.

Egyptian Museum in Tahrir

The museum is open all week from 9 am to 5 pm. On Sunday and Thursday you can even go for the night shift between 5:30 pm and 9 pm.

For the morning shift, tickets for Egyptians and Arabs are 20 EGP in the morning, 5 EGP for students, and free for children up to age 6. This excludes the price for mummy halls which are 40 EGP for adults and 20 EGP for students. To take pictures, you can purchase a 20 EGP ticket or a 300 EGP ticket for videography, but photography is not allowed inside the mummy halls.

For the night shift, prices go up to 30 EGP for adults, 15 EGP for students, 60 EGP for adults in the mummy hall, and 30 EGP for students.

Museum of Islamic Art

You can find this museum in Bab Al-Khalq Square, and it’s open all week from 9 am to 5 pm, and from 6 pm to 9 pm. However, it closes on Friday from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm.

For the morning shift, tickets for Egyptians and Arabs is 10 EGP and 5 EGP for adults. It goes up to 15 EGP and 10 EGP respectively in the night shift.

The Coptic Museum

Located in Old Cairo, the museum is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm. Tickets are 10 EGP for adults, and 5 EGP for students.

National Museum of Egyptian Civilization

This museum contains a lot of relics from ancient times, showing the lifestyle of the people. It is located in Al-Fustat area and is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm. Tickets are 10 EGP for adults, and 5 EGP for students.

Manial Palace and Museum

Also known as Prince Muhamad Ali Palace, this waterfront museum and palace is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. Tickets are 20 EGP for adults, and 10 EGP for students.

Egyptian Textile Museum

The journey to this Museum is a cultural trip on its own as is located in Al-Muizz Street, which is filled with many historical sites. It’s open daily from 9 am to 5 pm, and tickets are 10 EGP for adults and 5 EGP for students.

Umm Kulthum Museum

Located in Al-Roda Island, Umm Kulthum Museum shows all you need to know about the talented songstress. Tickets are only 2 EGP for adults, 1 EGP for students, with an additional 4 EGP for photography, and 2 EGP for students.

Abdeen Palace Museum

Abdeen Palace is one of Cairo’s most beautiful buildings. You can visit daily from 9 am to 5 pm, and tickets are 20 EGP per person, and 10 EGP for students.

Gayer Anderson Museum

Located near to Mosque of Ahmad ibn Tulun in the Sayyida Zeinab neighbourhood, this underrated museum is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. Tickets are 10 EGP and 50 EGP for photography.

The Royal Carriages Museum at the Citadel

Located inside Saladin Citadel (Cairo Citadel), the Museum is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. Tickets are 20 EGP for adults, and 5 EGP for students.

Khufu Solar Boat Museum

This Pharaonic museum is open daily from 9 am to 5 pm. Tickets are 10 EGP for adults, and 5 EGP for students.
