More products get priority customs clearance

Special Department of Federal Revenue of Brazil has expanded the list of imported goods whose customs clearance will be speeded up for being necessary in the fight against COVID-19.

The Special Department of Federal Revenue of Brazil has expanded the list of imported goods with priority customs clearance to fight the new coronavirus pandemic. The agency published a normative ruling on the topic in a special edition of the Federal Gazette last Monday (4), as reported on the website of the Ministry of Economy.

The ruling provides for priority clearance for pharmaceutical raw materials and consolidates the list of products that already fit in this category. According to the previous document from March, the products intended for fighting the pandemic have faster customs procedures and can be delivered to the importer before the customs verification is concluded. Moreover, the import declaration involving these goods must be treated as a matter of priority by both the Special Department of Federal Revenue and the custodian responsible.

According to the Ministry of Economy, the ruling is intended to maintain a swift supply flow of goods and raw material for fighting the pandemic, avoid bottlenecks in customs facilities by streamlining the delivery of cargo and allowing for their economic use to strengthen the fight against the virus.
